TESSA TRAEGER: VOICES OF THE VIVRAIS
Thursday, January 13th, 2011
Last summer British photographer Tessa Treager held an exhibition at Purdy Hicks gallery entitled Voices of the Vivrais. The exhibition displayed work compiled over a number of years documenting communities in a mountainous region of rural France; their daily rituals, traditions and ways of farming that are nearing extinction.
The exhibition was supported by a privately printed limited edition artist’s book with accompanying essay by curator Mark Haworth-Booth. Jasper is the proud owner of one of the 250 copies of the book (number 114 to be precise), from which the images shown are taken.
One of the most respected photographers in Britain of the last fifty years, Tessa Treager is renowned for her affecting and arresting still life pictures. Tessa has worked with Jasper for a number of years and has taken many beautiful photographs of his ceramic, crystal and bridalwear designs.
