STREET PARTIES – A GREAT BRITISH TRADITION

Tuesday, May 29th, 2012

Street Parties have become synonymous with National Royal Celebrations in Britain; but they originated as ‘Peace Teas’ to mark the signing of the Versailles treaty in 1919. Esther, one of the JC studio team, found this tablecloth, which was used to dress the table at a Coronation street party in 1953. Treats of sandwiches, tea and cake are also traditionally served, laid out on tables covered with Union Flag cloths and bunting.
