Jasper’s Sketches Feature In New Exhibition
Friday, June 28th, 2013
A new exhibition about Mary Queen of Scots has opened in Edinburgh today, exploring the myth and reality of one of the most enigmatic figures in Scottish history.
The exhibition showcases the fateful and complex relationship between Queen Mary, her sister Queen Elizabeth I and Mary’s many husbands, one of whom was murdered. It features several sketches of costumes, designed by Jasper for the 1998 English National Opera production of Donizetti’s Maria Stuarda, Mary Stewart.
“To me, the costumes are part of the story telling: dark and menacing or soft and pretty? The leather costume conveys Elizabeth I as a warrior and a woman not to be messed with.” Jasper Conran
The exhibition, which opens at the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh, runs from 28 June - 17 November 2013.
