Introducing the team
Thursday, May 13th, 2010
When we first started planning the Journal, Jasper wanted us to talk about the studio and all the characters within his team. With that in mind and with just four months until Jasper shows his Spring/Summer 2011 collection at London Fashion Week, we are focusing on the womenswear team - starting with the youngest member.
Design assistant Laura (pictured) is never in one place for long. If she is not scouring Portobello market for inspiration, visiting factories or sourcing trims, she is on the phone in the studio hunting down elusive fabrics.
As the collection develops, she keeps on top of every adjustment, to every toile. This is crucial in fittings where she is responsible for dressing our in-house model Olivia. She must remember any updates to the styling and pin any changes Jasper makes to the overall shape.
After each design meeting she arranges all the photographs taken of Olivia onto a board on the studio wall. The sample manager, pattern makers and machinists use this line-up to ensure that every toile has been adjusted correctly before the next meeting.
Laura first came to our studio for an eight-month work placement whilst studying at the London College of Fashion. Her work ethic, creative flair and whimsical style got noticed and after graduation Jasper invited her to join the team.
