GISELLE AT THE MOVIES
Wednesday, January 19th, 2011
This evening a live performance of The Royal Ballet’s Giselle will be screened in cinemas across the world, giving dance-lovers unable to get to the Royal Opera House the chance to see Peter Wright’s brilliant, ethereal staging of one of the most popular of all Romantic ballets.
The ultimate tale of love, betrayal, vengeance and finally redemption, Giselle tells the story of a young woman who dies of a broken heart after being deceived by the handsome Duke she is in love with. In knowledge of the Duke’s ill-fated future, Giselle returns as a ghost to save him.
Award-winning ballerina Marianela Nuñez, often seen on the front-row of Jasper’s catwalk shows, performs the title role of the ballet – a part that is considered one of the most challenging in classical dance.
