Jasper's first book Jasper Conran Country is now wending its way to bookshops around the globe. This year long ramble through the English countryside celebrates the ever changing rural landscape and its charming, and sometimes eccentric, characters and traditions. “Life never stands still in the countryside, just as the seasons never fail to surprise” - Jasper Conran The photography in his new book captures the atmosphere of this dynamic environment. This week, we will be previewing imagery from each distinctive season. (To view the slideshow, please click on the main image)
DAY ONE For Jasper, spring tends to creep up and surprise him. During his year of exploration the first burst of wild daffodils after a long and cold winter was an inspiration. “Until that moment, “ he says, “I had barely noticed it was spring at all”. He wanted to capture the feeling of longer, lighter days and of rural communities celebrating the new season with constantly evolving festivities.
DAY TWO From the crisp early mornings to the sleepy sun-drenched afternoons Jasper's vision of summer in the country allows us to indulge in a little nostalgia. He sees, not only the romance, but the practicality and good sense in keeping traditional crafts like rush harvesting and pottery alive.
DAY THREE In autumn, Jasper found himself stopping to notice the smallest things - the abundance of wild food available to forage, the colour of the landscape and even the quiet magnificence of waterways and livestock.
DAY FOUR For winter, he contrasts the sight of a "wet centuries old tree, its trunk weighed down with age and snow” to the cosy interior of his favourite village pub. He likes the idea of being exposed to the elements in the knowledge that a well stoked fire and a real pint of ale is within reach.
