1 DAY TO GO... LONDON FASHION WEEK COMMENCES!
Friday, February 17th, 2012
London Fashion Week kicks off today and with over 5,000 buyers, press and journalists streaming through the doors of Somerset House in the next 6 days, we thought we’d bring you a few facts about the UK’s biggest international luxury fashion event.
• 28 years ago the British Fashion Council (BFC) formed and launched the British Designer Show at Olympia (now called London Fashion Week).
• London Fashion Week’s origins date back to a small ‘New Wave’ fashion exhibition at the Ritz in the early 1970’s, where Annette Worsley-Taylor introduced young British designers to an international market.
• 24 years ago Naomi Campbell first modelled in Jasper Conran’s spring/summer show. The same year she became the first black model on the cover of French Vogue.
• Over 100 catwalk shows and presentations now take place at London Fashion Week, with more than 200 designer exhibitions on display every season.
